On July 11, 2025, the Initiative Digital Packaging Transformation (IDPT) brought together key players from across the packaging value chain in Vienna to present and further develop progress in the digitalisation of packaging data. Among the active members – including PreZero International, Lidl Germany, Kaufland, BILLA AG, BIPA, SPAR Austria, ARA – Altstoff Recycling Austria AG, JODL Verpackungen, and Packaging Cockpit – we were pleased to welcome new, committed companies such as ALDI SÜD HOLDING, Essity, MAM Baby, Mondi Group, NÖM, and Tchibo.
Founded in January 2025, the initiative aims to establish a uniform, international digital standard for packaging data. At the heart of this effort is the Green Deal Packaging Framework (GDPF), which enables the standardised, dynamic, and sustainable mapping of packaging information throughout the entire supply chain.
In addition to presenting the methodology, the event focused on current developments, including:
🔹 Updates on the EU Packaging Regulation and CEN working groups
🔹 Insights into the Green Claim Directive
🔹 New research findings from FH Campus Wien on sustainable packaging and substances of concern
The event clearly demonstrated: The industry is coming together to create digital, transparent, and sustainable solutions for the future of packaging.
